I was born and raised in a San Francisco flat-no dogs allowed! One of my happiest memories was attending the Golden Gate KC’s annual benched show at the Cow Palace every year. I can still remember the name of the first dog I watched winning Best in Show. Graduating from college, getting a ‘real’ job and subsequently a husband and eventually a house of our own, we welcomed the first of four Belgian Sheepdogs (Groenendael) in the mid ‘70s. Imagine my thrill attending my  first Conformation show and later showing my dog Nikki to his championship, fulfilling the dream of a young girl.

Conformation proved to be quite addicting and later an Ibizan Hound was added to the mix. As it turned out she was not meant to be a conformation dog, but we soon discovered lure coursing, a sport at which she excelled.

In 1992, when all the large dogs had passed due to old age, we started looking for a smaller dog and fell in love with Border Terriers. With the Borders came titles in Conformation, EarthDog, Agility, Rally Obedience, Lure Coursing (revisited), Barn Hunt, NASDA (North American Sport Dog Association) and Scentwork. Stepping down from breeding, my mentor Marjorie Stephenson  graciously passed on her Ups ‘N Downs kennel name.

One of my most exhilarating life moments was hunting rats with my girl Rosie at midnight in NYC with Richard Reynolds and the Ryders Alley Trencher Fed Society, the evening after she was given a Conformation Award of Merit at the Border Terrier National Specialty.

I am a CGC judge and ATT Evaluator, as well as being a NASDA judge.
